Our History
In 1984, I began working in the Customs Brokerage industry at the age of 15 as a dispatcher for a piggyback trucking company managed by my uncle. My daily duties required me to visit the local Customs offices, rail yards and most of the local Customs brokers’ facilities as part of our daily operations in the handling of shipments to and from Mexico.
At 17, I was offered a job by one of the most prominent Customs brokerage firm at the time. Although going to college and working part-time, it took only a few years to learn and move up the ranks from the company’s dispatcher to their import traffic manager. It was during this period that I learned all aspects of Customs Import and Export Regulations and Procedures, US Customs tariff schedules and our customer’s strict service requirements. Most importantly, I learned the important role compliance, integrity and service plays as a trusted and key part of our customers supply chain.
By 1995, having earned a Customs Broker License at the age of 25, a combination of experience, a strong work ethic and the newly formed NAFTA made it possible to form my own company, The JB Group. Our building blocks would be Compliance, Integrity and Service. These would prove to be invaluable and were to play a major role in our success.
Today, The JB Group has established itself as one of the leaders in US and Mexican Customs clearance, Freight Forwarding and Warehouse and Distribution services in Laredo, Texas. Though we’ve seen periods of challenge and transformation, we’ve experienced tremendous success and growth by earning the loyalty and trust of our valued customers. Our growth and expansion of services is attributed to our relentless commitment to provide the highest level of service in all aspects of our operations.
