Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions we receive about US Customs brokerage, CTPAT, and cross-border trade.

What is a licensed US Customs Broker and why do I need one?
A licensed US Customs Broker is a private individual or firm licensed by CBP to conduct customs business on behalf of importers and exporters. Using a licensed broker ensures correct tariff classification, accurate duty payment, and regulatory compliance — avoiding costly penalties, exams, and cargo holds at the border.
What does CTPAT certification mean for my business?
C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) is a voluntary public-private sector partnership program that strengthens supply chain and border security. Certified companies receive FAST Lane access at the border, fewer examinations, and priority processing — significantly reducing transit times and operational costs.
What is USMCA and how does it affect my imports from Mexico?
The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA/T-MEC) replaced NAFTA in 2020. Goods that qualify as originating under USMCA rules are entitled to preferential duty rates — often 0%. JOBCO assists clients with Certificate of Origin preparation, record-keeping requirements, and qualifying product under USMCA rules of origin.
Do you handle FDA and other government agency (OGA) filings?
Yes. JOBCO has extensive experience with FDA FSMVP (Food Safety Modernization and Verification Program), bioterrorism legislation filings, USDA/APHIS, EPA, DOT, FCC, and other OGA requirements. Our team ensures all required government agency submissions are completed accurately and on time before or at arrival.
Can JOBCO handle both US and Mexican customs clearance?
Absolutely. JOBCO provides fully integrated US Customs and Mexican Customs (Agente Aduanal) clearance through our in-country offices in Nuevo Laredo, Piedras Negras, Monterrey, Toluca, and San Luis Potosí. This single-partner approach gives you complete visibility and control over both sides of every cross-border transaction.
What is PAPS / PARS and why does it matter?
PAPS (Pre-Arrival Processing System) is the US border pre-clearance system for truck shipments. PARS is its Canadian equivalent. JOBCO tracks your PAPS bar code in real time, confirming clearance before the truck arrives at the border — eliminating wait times and ensuring smooth, documented crossing at Laredo and other ports.
